Field Operator

 

UTS Geophysics, a Geotech company, is a leading provider of airborne geophysical mapping technologies worldwide. Our team is currently looking for Geophysical survey operators on casual basis, working on a roster, managing domestic and international airborne geophysical projects.

Reporting to the operations/project manager, the role includes working in a team environment with air crew (both fixed and rotary wing) generally in remote and regional areas, whilst maintaining communication with project managers is crucial to the success of projects.

To be considered for this role you should have some exposure to working in "the field" with a good aptitude in technical systems.

Scope of Position:

To install, maintain, and service geophysical surveying equipment, while collecting, compiling, and archiving related survey data. You will be required to fly in a helicopter, on a daily basis for lengthy periods of time, while maintaining the onboard survey equipment.

The position involves working and living for extended periods of time in remote locations across Australia, Asia, and around the world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and service surveying equipment
  • Assist in the inspection, testing, and adjustment of electronic components
  • Ensure that quality standards are maintained
  • Responsible for the operation of electronic equipment
  • Responsible for the collection, compilation, and processing of operational  data

Basic Requirements:

  • Problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Must be a critical thinker
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities
  • Must be able to work effectively with others, in close confines, for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to communicate in English verbally and written - another language an asset
  • Will be proficient in applying basic mathematics and unit conversion
  • Must be computer oriented
  • Must be knowledgeable with internet applications, word processing, and spreadsheet software
  • Must be able to distinguish colours and be in excellent physical condition (combination of sitting, lifting, and standing for long periods of time)
  • Must be able to fly in a helicopter for extended periods of time and be willing to travel

Beneficial Assets

  • Degree/Diploma in Electronics
  • 3-5 years experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting electronic equipment
